Can real strategy work on a phone? Mostly yes

I used to think serious strategy games couldn't survive the jump to touchscreens. Too much information, too little room, too many fiddly orders. Tideline Command spent a weekend proving me half wrong.

The games that succeed strip their systems down without dumbing them down. Tideline gives you a handful of real decisions per minute instead of a hundred, and those decisions carry weight. Choosing which outpost to let starve is the kind of hard call good strategy is built on.

The interface matters enormously here. Dragging supply routes with a finger felt natural after one mission, and tapping a port to reinforce it was instant. When the mid-game difficulty spiked, I was fighting the enemy, not the menus, which is how it should be.

Don't let the early tutorial lull you. Push into the third mission before you judge it. That's where these compact strategy games show whether they have real depth, and this one does.
