The case for keeping one cozy game installed

August 11, 2026 · Lukas Vogel

Not every game needs to test you. Some evenings I just want a quiet space with no fail state, and that's when I open something like Petal Press Cafe.

Cozy sims get dismissed as shallow, but the good ones are doing real work. They give you a small routine to control when the rest of the day felt out of control. Serving the same regular their usual order is weirdly grounding.

The genre's secret weapon is character writing. A cafe sim with warm, funny regulars beats a prettier one with none every time. You stick around for the people, not the upgrade tree.

Keep one of these installed. You won't play it every day, but on the days you need it, you'll be glad it's there.
